Do you ever get that feeling?

Earlier this morning I posted this. After getting the kids ready, I was going to get the dogs so I could crate them. Low and behold one of the Great Danes was having a major nose bleed. It took all I could to get her out to her crate, my kitchen floor looked like a murder scene. It was horrible. So after taking 20 minutes to get everything cleaned up we head out the door.

Once arriving at the store I think, "I'm gonna get this and this and oh yeah this." Not so much I couldn't get myself to buy anything! I am glad that I didn't spend any money but then again I have all these little things that I want to get. I want an adjustable blade Mandoline, a Magic Bullet and a bread machine.

I have been searching the internet and reading reviews. I have my eye on a mandoline that is on Amazon. If I can't find it any cheaper then I will buy it before the start of next week. I need it for this recipe that I am dying to try. Stay tuned, I am excited for myself and Ainsleigh. :)

Anyway back to the point of the post (sorry I am all over the place). But, do you ever say "I'm gonna take this amount of money and shop for this or that." But once you get to the store you can't part with your money. I'm here to say that, that's a good thing. I used to not feel that away. Back in the day I would just go to the store just to buy something, now a lot of the time I go to the store to window shop. At least it's better on my bank account. :)

Really makes you think

On Facebook I am a member of Cancer Sucks. Everyday or so they post new sites for people that are suffering from cancer. They are all heart wrenching!! There is this one little girl that I just keep thinking about her name is Layla Grace. She brings me to tears just saying her name. Her story really makes you think. I was just getting the girls to lay down for a nap and Ainsleigh was giving me a terrible time, pretty much being disobedient. Like most 2 year olds. :) Anyway I tell her that we can only read one book because she really needed to lay down. While I am sitting there with her I start thinking.

It's hard to not let things get to you when you are having a bad day. Layla's mom wants her to act out, wants her to talk back to her. She doesn't want to quiet house, she wants her little girl back. It will take a miracle to heal her and they didn't think she would make it through the night last night. Once again Layla's strength pulled her through. I know God has a plan for her and that's easy for me to say because she's not my little girl. What I have learned is when we are having a bad I need to step back and think about Layla's Mom. I pray she finds the strength she needs. Please say alittle prayer for Layla!!!!!

Grocery Roundup

This week I was suppose to only spend 60.00 but I didn't do so well. I knew I would have alittle extra money after Brian got paid so I spent alittle more instead of putting more into our savings accounts.

Kroger 51.56
Walmart 46.52

Total: 98.08
Toal for the month: 291.81

While I am alittle disappointed this total is actually fantastic for us. We used to spent 400 or more a month. We won't have to go shopping until next month. Also I have some fruits and veggies that I will be trying my hand at making some baby food for Tinleigh. Check back to see how that is going.

What do ya do.........

I went grocery shopping last night because the weather said we suppose to have freezing rain, rain and snow until Tuesday. Last night we only got probably 1/4 if an inch and now it's not doing anything. Figures!

I will post my shopping trip on Tuesday like normal but I am realizing that I need to really get a grasp on this whole budget thing. I don't think we are going to be able to afford the diet that I want for my family. So we are going to have to improvise. I would love to be able to feed my family all organic and natural foods. It seems like since we have started this journey we have more energy and feel better. That's great in all but when I am paying about 250-300 a month for Tinleigh's formula something has to give.

I really got to thinking about this yesterday when Brian calls me yelling (not a me) because his work has pushed him to the brink once again. I finally told him that I would rather have a happy and healthy husband than one that is on the verge of having a heart attack. If that means he has to quite his job and get a lower paying one, I will stand by his decision. Whatever happens we will get through.

So back to groceries, we can get enough food to feed us for a week on a 50-55 budget. This includes regular fruits and veggies not organic. As long as we are eating a well balance diet this is gonna have to be good enough for now. Also I am going to try and make baby food for Tinleigh. Here she is starting 3rd foods and she can barley eat anything of them. So many of them have rice, rice or wheat flour, or oatmeal. I mean come on, really!!!!

So, as I sit here and wait for the storm we are suppose to get I will be researching how to make baby food and some new recipes for me family. If you make your own baby food and you have any tips or tricks I'm begging, please let me know. :)

I need sleep!!!

Boy would I love to crawl back into bed and sleep the day away. But the reality is that I can't. Oh well. Tuesday was like any other Tuesday except that Brian went to an IU game after work and the girls and I spent the evening together playing. I put them to bed thought everything would be fine. Brian came home around 11 o'clock and shortly after we got ready for bed. Ahhh sleep....

Around midnight Tinleigh woke up. I went in her room to get her out of bed and she was on fire. So we came out to the kitchen, I turned the light on and noticed that she was twitching. Scared the heck out of me! I took her back to her to room to take her temperature and hoping that my sleepy eyes were just seeing things. I lay her on her changing table to take the temperature, it reads 103.2. While taking her temp I have my eyes glued to her to see if she is really twitching or not. She is!!

After taking her clothes off we go into my bedroom to wake up Brian. I told him to look at her she wasn't right. But of course she is so exciting to see him she acts fine. My mind is wondering everywhere, should I call the Dr, should I not. So we go out to the kitchen again to get her away from Brian and sure enough she calms down and is acting strange again.

I called the on-call Dr and went through her symptoms, she told me to go to the hospital. I knew is my heart that's what she would say before even dialing the number, but I guess I just need conformation. Rushing, I get everything together and head to the hospital.

When we got there is went straight to work on her, I felt so bad. "Are you sure she wasn't having a seizure?" "Your sure." I kept repeating "I'm sure, I'm sure" After doing a nasal swab, UA, blood work, chest X-ray and and numerous exams. Everything came back normal except a high white blood cell count and a spot on her lung. My first thought was "she has some sort of cancer!"

The Dr tells me that they are treating her for pneumonia and give me an antibiotic. Are you serious, she hasn't even been sick. Nothing, no running nose, no coughing, no nothing beside this fever that came on all the sudden. So we were told we need to follow up with her Dr in the morning. I call the office at 8 o'clock, why because that's when they are suppose to open. But, no they didn't transfer the phones until 8:20.

Here I am a nervous wreck worried sick about my little girl and they can't answer their phones when they are suppose to. So I make her an appointment for the 3:20 the earliest they have. Really! That's' the earliest? Whatever! I take her to her appointment and after all is said and done. We just have to watch her and see how she does. If she gets worse she will most likely be hospitalized. I'm praying she only gets better of course.

But there is a possibility that she has a urinary tract infection, her results came back with traces of bacteria. Now we have to wait for the cultures to come back, which take a couple days, to see for sure if there is an infection. Which would give reason for her high fever also. So these next days are a waiting game. Hoping she gets better soon, it's breaks my heart to just see her sick. I am enjoying all my time cuddling with her.

The girls.

My little angel. While she can have the worst attitude she can also be the sweetest girl you could ever meet. I can't believe she will be 3 in June.

Tinleigh had a check up yesterday and is doing very well. She is up to 16lbs!!!! So excited she has gained 2 lbs since starting this formula about 6 weeks ago. Tomorrow is she will 8 months old. She's is growing up way to fast. My once very cranky baby has turned into a very happy go lucky little girl. I'm so blessed to be the mommy of these two girls.

What a cookie?

This morning I was craving something sweet, I know I will totally regret this later. Anyway, I decided to make some chocolate chip cookies. Probably a bad idea because Tinleigh is so fussy but she was down for her morning nap. So what the heck, why not?

As my luck would have it she wakes up rather quickly and I am stuck trying to get the cookies ready to put in the oven. Well, take a look for yourself, you tell I was in a big hurry. They are GIGANTIC!! Can you tell I just through some on the pan? NAH!!! :)

Do you celebrate Valentine's Day?

Brian and I have been together for 11 1/2 years. married for 6 years in June. I think we only celebrated the first Valentine's Day where we actually got each other something. I'm not a big mushy person. Honestly, I think it an over the top holiday. I mean really, does it take this one "SPECIAL" day for you to show someone how much you love them? I person don't have to receive a gift to feel loved. Gifts are nice and I like them, but I think to many people get carried away.

With the way the economy is why not make a card, have dinner in, or rent a movie Just doing these three things could save you at least $70. Something made from the heart is way better than something bought. If you make it then you have taken the time to really put some thing into it.

I guess it's my newly accustomed frugal ways coming out or the fact that we don't have money to just go blow. I would rather save money for a bigger house or to be able the take my kids to the zoo or aquarium. Do you celebrate Valentine's Day and if so what do you do?

Oreo Balls

1 package regular size Oreo cookies, crushed
1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
1 package white almond bark
1 package chocolate almond bark

Using a blender or hand held mixer, mix Oreos and cream cheese together.

Roll into walnut size balls.

Chill for an hour.

Melt approximately 3/4 package of white almond bark.

Stick a toothpick in an Oreo ball and dip it in the melted white almond bark.

Allow to harden on wax paper.

Takes about 15 min.

While waiting, melt about 1/4 package of chocolate almond bark.

When Oreo balls are no longer sticky to the touch, decorate with drizzles of chocolate and white almond bark.

I just use a sandwich bag with a tiny hole cut in one corner to drizzle the almond bark.

My oh My! Miss Tinleigh isn't sleeping very well, yesterday she didn't want to take any naps. She slept terrible last night. I am hoping she is teething. I would say she was having a reaction but the only things she has yesterday were sweet potatoes for lunch and her formula throughout the day. Hopefully today is a better day.

Last year I talked about setting a goal for saving a down payment for a bigger house. I wanted to be able to save it up in two years but at the moment I don't think we are going to be able to do it. Since then we have replaced our furnace, Tinleigh has been put on this super expensive formula and I am just have this feeling that there might be a loss of income soon. I don't know but I just feel it.....

So far this month we have spent 140.00 on groceries which is great. Normally we would have been up to 250.00 or 300.00. This weekend I will only have 50.00 dollars to spend and I am just praying I can make it work. I don't think I would be this down with life if it would just warm up!!!! We are expecting more snow Friday-Monday. Which that leads me to the electric bill, it was 304.00 this month. I know some of it was from the beginning of the billing cycle when we were still running space heaters to try and stay warm, but for goodness sakes.

Ok I am done venting. I have got a lot of posts to work on for you lovely readers.

We are on a very tight budget this week and next. We had to purchase new tires for Brian's car and we didn't want to take anymore money out of savings. Strawberries 3.50
Bagels 1.88
Bananas 1.12

Cream of Spinach Soup

2 cups chopped fresh spinach - packed - (or 1 10-oz package frozen spinach, thawed)
1 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup butter
3 medium potatoes, peeled and quartered (about 1 pound)
1 1/2 cups chicken broth (or vegetable broth for vegetarian option)
1 1/2 cups water2 chicken bouillon cubes (or vegetable bouillon cubes for vegetarian option)
2 cups half-and-half
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
3/4 cup sour cream

Optional: chopped chives and/or ground allspice for garnish

1 In a large saucepan over medium heat, sauté onion in butter for 3 minutes or until limp. Add potatoes, chicken broth, water, and bouillon cubes. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 20 minutes or until the potatoes are tender. Add spinach and cook for 2 to 4 minutes longer until spinach is tender.

2 Working in batches, purée soup mixture in a blender. Return to saucepan. Whisk in half-and-half, salt and pepper.

3 Over low heat, bring to just before simmering. Whisk in the sour cream. You may want to use an immersion blender to get the sour cream fully incorporated.

This soup can be served hot or chilled. Garnish with chopped chives, sprinkles of allspice, or a dollop of sour cream.

Tinleigh Update

We took Tinleigh to Riley Children's Hospital Friday and I left the office feeling very hopeful. The Doctor had lots of great advice and is concerned about her weight but we are working on that. She has gained a pound and a half since starting the Neocate formula about 4 weeks ago. Which is great. The Doctor is not really concerned with her eating lots of baby food just that we feed her some at least once or so every couple days so that she knows how to eat food.

As of right now I know for sure that she is allergic to milk and any milk product, rice, oatmeal, and apricots. We are trying new foods and the list just keeps getting longer. The plan for Tinleigh is to go back in March for a weight check and review then if all is going well then she will have to go back when she turns a year. At that time she will be reevaluated and if she is doing ok we will try to start her on whole milk and see what happens.

Other than that I have a HAPPY baby now. Well, most of the time, she is teething right now so that puts a little damper on things but we will work through it.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!!

Losing Weight

Tuesday marked the day I started my so called diet. I don't like to call it a diet. I guess I am not really calling it a diet the more I think about it. I am doing a life style change. Healthy eating is what I am focusing on. I have always wanted my two year old to eat as healthy as possible but never put much thought into it for myself.

I am happy to say that this morning I weighed in and had already lost 2lbs!!!! I am so excited. I still am drinking about one coke a day and would like to work on every other day. I will continue to try and weed it out, it's just so hard.

We are eating simple meals with lots of fruits and veggies. Like for breakfast this morning I had water, yogurt, and a banana. Lunch Ainsleigh and I had grapes, broccoli and cauliflower and a grilled cheese. For dinner I am fixing a bacon, egg and cheese bagel. As long as I focus on simple meals I can get my grocery bill down.

I set my weight loss goal for 5lbs for this month. I would love if I could surpass this. :)

I would love to know what you are doing to try to shed some pounds. Have a great day!!

Is it ever gonna end.....

Just when you think you have everything under control. WHAM... It slaps you in the face. As if dealing with an infant with several allergies, having to pretty much fork over a hefty car payment each month to buy her formula, trying to recover from installing a new furnace and a dog the numerous nose bleeds wasn't enough. My other dog Yoda has a herniated disc. If he does not improve in 2 weeks he will be sent to a neuro surgeon to have back surgery.

I don't know what to do!! I am stressed to the max. Then yesterday we find out the we are going to have issues with filing our tax return because Brian's former contractor didn't pay any of his taxes. When will we catch a break?

Anyway my goals for this month are:

~Post at least 4 posts a week

~Lose 5 pounds

~Finish reading one book

~Try is put some money back into savings

~Live on as little as possible. ( I know you have heard me say this before but it's kind of a do or die situation)

~Bring is some extra money

What are your goals for the month of January? I would love to here from you, hearing from my readers makes my day! :)
