Tinleigh Update

Yesterday morning I got up at 4:45am to get ready. BLAH!!! Then I had to get the girls up at 5:30am. BLAHHHH!!! Let me just say, "That wasn't cool." Their attitudes quickly turned around but man, the first 30 minutes they were bears. We were on the road by 6:30 and had to be at Riley Children's Hospital between 8:00 and 8:15. Luckily we made it on time even with being stuck in morning traffic.

Tinleigh did ok through out her appointment, when we got to a room the resident took her history. The allergist came in an discuss what he was going to do and how there are many false positives and negatives when testing for food allergies. Going into this appointment I knew all of this but wanted to see if we could get anything from it.

The nurse came in to do the skin testing, she was awesome. So kind and gentle, couldn't ask for a better nurse. Tinleigh screamed the whole time but she was never in any pain, she just didn't like that we were holding her down on her stomach. I thought the skin testing would be painful but the nurse used a clean tester on me and it didn't hurt at all.

Tinleigh was tested for codfish, egg, milk, peaches, peanut, rice, shrimp, soy, and wheat.  Out of all of those she only tested positive for one. She tested positive for soy. The range for the skin test is 0-4, Tinleigh tested a 3. The Dr said he wanted to do the blood testing also to check the antibodies. If her antibodies were high for soy then she gets an epi-pen. We are waiting for the results to determine if we will do an in-office challenge for milk. If she doesn't have any antibodies to milk then she will have the in-office challenge but if she does have antibodies to milk then she will go with out milk for another year. At that time she will be tested again.

So we really only have to wait till the blood work comes back to try a new diet with her. I am excited, excited that she will be able to try different foods. Over all, I think the allergy appointment was a good experience and I am glad that I took it into my own hands to get some answers. :)

August is Approaching

Here we are 3 days away from August. This summer has went by so fast. I can't believe Ainsleigh will be starting preschool in a couple weeks. With August quickly approaching I have been thinking of all the things I would like to accomplish. You know make more money, beef up savings, lose weight, eat cleaner, and start saving regularly for a bigger house. All these things have been on my mind. We need to make some drastic changes. We need to budget better. August will be a fresh start.

We are looking into some different areas to make some extra money and to save extra money. We are looking to lower our grocery bill. This might not change for a couple months, at least till we can find a diet that Tinleigh can handle. Once we get her eating more solid foods we can start weaning her off her infant formula and bottle, then she will only have toddler formula. This will save us about $150 a month.

So when August rolls around be on the look out as to what we are buying, what we are eating, what extra we are making and what we are saving. I love reading posting on other blogs about their monthly financial goals, it gives me a motivation. So please leave a comment, I would love to hear about your financial goals and how you are reaching them.  I would love to hear from you. :)

The Time is Coming....

Tinleigh's Dr appointment is friday with the allergist. I hope this is a postive experience and that we can be able to get some answers. I can't wait to be able to feed her more filling foods so she is not waking up at night for a bottle. I know most of you are probably shaking your heads at me, I know I would to if I didn't know all the circumstances. Keep her in your prayers. I will be updating everyone this weekend on what we find out.

Christmas is Coming!

I know what you are thinking, "What the heck, why is she posting this?" But truth be told you need to think about Christmas year round. Many people just push it aside till December 20th and then have to charge their credit cards or take out small loans to buy gifts. I admit I have been that person who waits till the last possible second rushes out and charges it to a credit card. But I have vowed to be better with our money. Christmas doesn't have to break the bank.

This year we have put some money back, not much. We will be relying on Amazon Gift cards and Amazon deals to get us through. I have a pretty big stash of SwagBucks and plan on using them to get gift cards to purchase our gifts. I will be posting these deals as them become available. So from now until Christmas I will be posting deals as I find them. Please check back often as Amazon changes prices often.

If you are not signed up with SwagBucks please do so here. Swagbucks is a search engine that you can use to earn for searching. You won't be disappointed! Check them out. :)

Finding A Rescue

These were our babies before our girls came along.

Trying to place a diabetic dog in a good home is very hard. I mean really when you see "Free to good home, diabetic dog" I'm sure you aren't going to bust down my door trying to get into contact with me.
Zara will be going to a rescue an hour away from here and will be fostered and then placed in a home. It breaks my heart just thinking about them leaving but we have to do what it best for them and for our children. You can only imagine how much it costs to feed two Great Danes and a diabetic, insulin dependant dogs.
If you know of any rescues that will consider a diabetic dog please email me.

My Lil' Tin

My lil' Tinleigh is a work of art, she really broke the mold. I don't mean that in a bad way, I'm just saying she is way DIFFERENT than Ainsleigh. Ainsleigh never got into anything, never tried to climb on objects, and certainly never put foriegn objects in her mouth. Ainsleigh was so easy. Well, until she hit two years old but that's another story.

Here are my girls lovin' each other. Notice the clippy in Tinleigh's hair? Let me give you a closer look.

That's better. This is what I used to keep Tinleigh's bangs out of her face. I did the same thing with Ainsleigh when she was this age. Well Friday night we were on our way home from getting dinner and Tinleigh started choking in her carseat. Brian was driving I turned around to see what was going on and she couldn't breathe. I stuck me fingers in her mouth and felt the clip that was suppose to be in her hair. It was in her throat. Brian pulled over I jumped out and got her out of her seat. Her mouth being so small I couldn't grasp the clip with two fingers.
She finally could swallow it and was breathing again. I told Brian we had to be her to the hospital. He looked at me like and said there is nothing they can do now. I didn't listen to him, I was so worried. Being that the clip was metal and it was the larger than the one in the picture. (I only had one clip that size and it was the one she swallowed.) We turned around and went to the emergency room. They took her to a room right away to check her and sent her to have x-rays. After the x-rays we were waiting in the room for the Doctor to look at them she starts having an allergic reaction. Imagine that!
The Doctor comes in to say that the clip did make to her stomach and gave her medicine for the reaction. Told us to come back tomorrow morning to have another x-ray done to see if it was moving and was going to send us on our way. I know that kids swallow stuff all the time but I was still worried. The nurse came in to give us our discharge paperwork. Keep in mind there was a shift change in between all this and this nurse really had no clue as to what was going on. She said I was to bring Tinleigh back on Monday for a repeat x-ray, I questioned this since the Doctor had said to come in Saturday, the very next day. The nurse leaves to get some answers to clear up the confusion. She comes back with another Doctor and tells us we aren't going home.
This Doctor was to contact Riley Children's Hospital and have them look at the x-ray to get a second opinion. He was concerned about the size of the hair clip and the size of Tinleigh. I was so thankful that I wasn't overreacting. Riley calls back and tell us we need to get her there as soon as possible because they want to remove it. My mind starts racing. So we get discharged from our local hospital and have to go home to drop Ainsleigh off and have Brian's Mom stay with her. Then off we go and hour and a half away at midnight.
We get to Riley Children's Hospital around 1:30am and head to their emergency room. She has more x-rays and is seen by to different residence. They don't want to take it out. What! Are you kidding me? We drove all the way here for you to say we just want to wait it out. I was so upset. Don't get me wrong I didn't to have to put Tinleigh under but I had tried to prepare myself for this to take place and we rushed over for nothing. I didn't see why we had to drive over an hour away for the same thing our local hospital was going to do.
They admitted her to a room and we waited till 8am to have another x-ray. The hair clip had moved but not by much. Tinleigh had been so unbearable because they wouldn't let her eat and she was starving. My heart broke seeing her like this. Finally around 9am she was sent back to x-ray to drink some contrast to see exactly where that clip was. It is had went to far then they wouldn't be able to scope it. She tolerated to the process well, you could say. But after looking at the pictures it was to far down in her small bowel to reach it.
The head GI came in to talk to us and said he felt that she was going to pass the hair clip because it had already made it through the two worst places that it could do the most damage. He answered all of our questions, said Tinleigh could eat and if she tolerated it then she could be released. She was so happy to see food, she ate a banana, green beans , applesauce and 4 oz of formula. We waited thirty minutes to see how she did and all went well. They discharged us and off we went back home. Brian and I had been up for more than 36 hours. By the time we got home we crashed. (In bed, not our car)
Saturday evening I changed Tinleigh's diaper and got a huge surprise. The hair clip! We were so thankful that it passed so quickly. Tinleigh is in much better spirits and will no longer have any type of hair clip in her hair until she is in high school. I would have never thought she would have done this.

So now that we have moved passed the hair clip drama she has moved onto climbing on the things. I will not be surprised if she has a broken bone before she is two. Tinleigh is by far my wild child. Although is she crazy and wild, has a terrible temper and is allergic to everything I wouldn't change her for the world.

Things Are Changing

Starting in August I will be posting my Grocery Round Ups again. I need to be more accountable, plus we buying different foods for Tinleigh things get a little expensive. I need to keep this in check. I am amazed at how much I have saved for our Disney trip. Yes I did add $800 from a refund on our escrow but before that I was doing very well. We just don't have a lot of extra money after our bills when you are buying very expensive formula, very expensive dog food and insulin for a diabetic dog.

I will also be bring back Money Making Round Ups. We can use all the extra money we can get. Really who can't use extra money? I'm just sayin'. Last but not least I will be doing monthly financial updates. We will be sitting down in the next week or so to talk about what goals we what to reach to get into a bigger house. Why do houses cost so much money?

Today's The Day

Today's the deadline to book our Disney trip with our pin code that we were emailed. But, we are not going to use it. Our plan was to get the family suite at the All Star Music Resort and the pin excludes suites. I am afraid Tinleigh will not sleep very well at night and I want to be able to have another room to go to so she doesn't wake up Brian and Ainsleigh.

I have searched the internet high and low and it looks like we will be booking our room through Expedia or Travelocity. Their price for the suite it a 25 cent difference. Then I will get the tickets off of a ticket website closer to when we are leaving. More on that later.

We have added $800 to our fund. We received a check from our escrow account on our mortgage and we decided to use some of the money for Disney. This puts our total to $1437. We originally said we needed $1700 for the week but with the added expense of getting a suite we will need $2240. So we need $803 to fund the trip. Time is ticking, it will be here before we know it. :)

New Allergy Post.

Go here to check it out. I'm warning you it's long.

Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda

I should have grown a garden. If I would have known that Tinleigh's diet would rely so heavily on produce at this point in time, I would have. Next year I plan on it. I grew up with large gardens. My Dad and Grandma had huge gardens, the size of a corn field. They sold most of the produce and made extra money. Boy, do I wish I had a green thumb. I can bearley keep my flowers alive.

The Countdown

I have 7 days to book our vacation to Disney if we are going to use our pin code. The past two days I have been dealing with Tinleigh have an allergic reaction. You can read about it here. Knowing that she allergic to many things makes me scared to take her on a vacation that is 14 hours away. I need to talk to Brian more about it this weekend. I guess if all else failed I could book the room and see how her allergist appointment goes at the end of July.

What would you do if you were in this situation?
