Seasonal Allergies and a GIVEAWAY!!!

Have you heard of Boogie Wipes? If not they are new to me too. But am I ever so glad to have found them. Tinleigh, bless her heart has seasonal allergies also. The past week any a half we have been battling runny noses and watery eyes.

So we have been using Boogies Wipes. They are saline wipes for your nose, a gentle alternative to using tissues. Earlier this year when we were dealing with the Spring allergies Tinleigh cried, kicked and screamed when I went to wipe her nose. But, with Boogies Wipes she actually lets me wipe her nose. This will definitely be a winter must have. They come in fresh, grape, menthol and unscented.  Check out their website and follow them on Facebook and Twitter.

Boogie Wipes are giving away two 30 count wipes to one of my lucky readers. Simply become a follower, my goal is to reach 150+ followers, and leave a comment. This giveaway will run till 11:59pm September 10th, 2010.

Allergy Friendly? Yes, Please!

If you have food allergies in your family Enjoy Life is a must have brand. I had the opportunity to try these foods out with my family and we were not disappointed. Enjoy Life is a company known for allergy friendly foods, their food are made without the EIGHT major allergens.

We are a family big on cereal. I could live off cereal and it seem like Ainsleigh could too. The Cinnamon Crunch Granola is delicious! A great pick-me-up in the morning. Also it tastes great in plain yogurt, with their smaller clusters. Crunchy Flax cereal is also another great breakfast option. It's naturally sweetened with fruit juice and honey. A way better alternative to the sugary cereals that you have probably been eating. (I admit, I eat them too!)

When I saw the Sunbutter Crunch snack bars I didn't know how they would taste. I have never had sun butter before, but thinking this would be a great option for Tinleigh since one of her allergies is peanuts. It took me the second bar to really get the taste for it. The rest of my family took to them well also. I think when you are used to peanut butter it just takes a few times to really get the feel for something different.

I was super excited about trying the cookies and trail mix. Cookies and trail mix don't last long in this household. No Nuts Mountain Mambo, try saying that ten times fast, is a great allergy friendly, healthy snack. This was gone in one sitting. Brian opened them and the first thing he said, "Did you know there is chocolate in these?" Enjoy Foods make their chocolate chips with dairy free coca butter. :) I am hoping that my Kroger here will get this trail mix in soon, I want to take some to Ainsleigh's preschool for snack because she has a classmate with a peanut allergy.

Chewy Chocolate Chip, Double Chocolate Brownie, and "No Oats" Oatmeal were the cookies that we got to try. They were all delicious, Tinleigh was in heaven getting to try them. Once again you can't try them thinking they are going to taste like what you are used to. They are very similar and still taste great. My Kroger does have some of the cookies and we are going to get a box or two to take with us to Disney, that way when we enjoy a treat she will be able to enjoy a special treat as well.

Over all I am extremely pleased with this company. They go above and beyond to make a healthy alternative, allergy friendly food. I am thankful I was able to get this opportunity to try a few of their foods. If you or someone in your family suffers from food allergies check out their website.  You will find all their foods, money saving coupons, information on their new cook book and much more.

Is It Sad.......

that I already want to start packing the suite cases for Disney? I'm not gonna lie, I have really thought about it. This week I have been on a misson trying to find some foods that I can take with us for Tinleigh. Boy, let me tell you, someone sent me some goodies to try and I think they will work out really well. More on that next week.

My list is getting longer and longer. I think I add something to it everyday. This week we have also went back in forth on if we wanted to extend out trip. But, after a lot of thinking and planning we have decided to keep with the plans that we have and next year we can stay longer. Right now we are staying 5 nights, doing 2 days at Seaworld and two days at Disney.

We are leaving exactly two weeks from today. Tomorrow Ainsleigh and I are going to make a little count down craft so she can kind of understand a little better about when we are leaving. Right now she says "we are leaving in two weeks." I don't think she really gets how long two weeks is though. :)

Just Figures.....

For lunch today I was gonna have some tuna and crackers. Well wouldn't ya figure I open the tuna and go the fridge to the the mayo. Once opening the door I realized I didn't have anymore. After searching my very cluttered pantry I found NOTHING. So what the heck and I to do with an open can of tuna? Throw it away? Heck no! I decided to put a little french dressing in it and eat it like that. The outcome, pretty tasty!

What would you have done?

Tomoee Tippee

Have you seen these cups yet? Tommee Tippee products are sold of Babies R Us retailers. I recently had the pleasure of reviewing this set of cups. Well, I didn't really review them, Tinleigh did. Let me say first off that I am sold on this brand. (I wish I has a newborn so I could try the bottles to supplement.) The cups are very durable, they have a soft spout which Tinleigh loves.

Tommee Tippee has a variety of stages for their cup line. Everything from the beginner to 24+ months. Their advanced-flow technology offers easier, super sensitive drinking without the stress and mess. Check out their website and Babies R Us for the Tommee Tippee line. You won't be disappointed!
Tinleigh wasn't.

Leftover Pasta

The other night the girls and I had some pasta with some spaghetti sauce. After we ate I still had some pasta left over that I didn't want to throw away. I looked through the pantry and fridge for ideas on what to use it with.  Then I spotted some Italian dressing. Why not make a frugal pasta salad?  This is just a few of the things I have been doing lately to reduce our waste.

Making a List

Our Disney vacation quickly approaching........ in like 27 days.......but who's counting. I have been starting my list of things we need to take with us. This will be the first time we have traveled more than 4 hours away since Ainsleigh was born. The last time we went to Disney I was actually pregnant with her.  I, myself get giddy thinking about going.  I can't wait to see the look on both the girls faces when they see Mickey.

Hopefully Tinleigh will be off her evening bottle by then, it will be nice not to have to bring her infant formula, water and bottles. She is down to taking 3oz before bed so I think I could probably stop giving them to her and see how she handles it.

We will be taking our pak n play for Tinleigh to sleep in, lets hope she will sleep in it. Also a few security items and toys. Tomorrow we are making a trip to Whole Foods to find some more snack foods for her that don't have to be put in a cooler. When you travel with your kids what is a must that you bring? I just want to make sure there is something I don't forget.

My Lil Dream.....

As I have talked about before, I would like to have a bigger house. Nothing huge or course. Just a house with a basement and an open kitchen, dining and living area. Are our finances in that good of shape right now? No. We aren't behind on any of our bills but we can't afford to take on a much bigger mortgage. We want to build our next house so we can cut some costs. Brian knows how to finish a house, this could lead to a lot of savings. I guess it pays to marry a "Handy Man." :)

We have the floor plan that we want already picked out. It's beautiful, the house is by no means fancy. But, it has everything we want in a house. We have even went and look at the same house, it's actually a model home in the town Brian works in.

So on to my dream..... I want to be able to find alittle land not a lot like 6 acres max, build a garage or shed type structure to live in while we save up money to build the house. Now you might ask why is this a dream and not a reality? Well, because we can not find any land for sale and if there is land for sale it is outragous. So right now I will keep praying and dreaming that some time in the near future we will be able to purchase some land.

How did you try to cut cost on buying or building you house? I would love to hear your story.

Falling in Love Again

If you follow me on Facebook, you would see my status is "A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person."  A lot of times life gets in the way and we lose sight of our marriage. Maybe you just had a baby, your spouse was having a relationship on the side, or your job is requiring A LOT of hours each week. I know all three of these things have put our marriage of the rocks. Not all at the same time of course, but we have worked through our problems and manage to fall in love all over again. I know some things take time to heal, marriages can not be fixed in a day. It may take weeks, months, or even years if you are willing to stick if out.

This weekend Brian's cousin got married, as I watched them take their vows I went back six years ago to our wedding day. It still brings tears to my eyes when I think about our vows and how Brian was the one who started to cry first. Never in a million years would  I have thought he would have been emotional about this. (He shows no emotion). Anyway, my point is, don't push your marriage aside. Love your spouse the way you did when you married them. Remember what it was that made you fall in love with them because "Falling in love rocks!"

Tinleigh Update

Yesterday I got a call for Riley Children's Hospital. It was Tinleigh's Allergist office calling about her blood results. Out of all the tests for allergies the only thing that came up in the blood work was peanuts. PEANUTS! I know I have said this before but, food allergies are the hardest allergy to test for. Her antibodies were pretty high for the peanut allergy so she gets an Epi-pen. Most peanut allergies are severe so it makes me comfortable that we have this just in case it's needed. She has never been exposed to peanuts or any other nuts in the nut family, so we don't know what her reaction would be.

So the plan is to keep her away from soy, milk, and peanuts till she returns in one year for her allergies to be tested again. I have been giving her some foods with wheat in them and she has been handling them fine. So I think it's safe to say she has outgrown that. Which makes me happy. I am fine with checking one thing off her list. I made banana bread this morning for her and she devoured it. That reminds me I need to get a picture of it before it's gone. This recipe will be up next week, so if you are interested in an healthier, dairy free, soy free banana bread recipe check back.

Do You Ever Get That Look?

As more and more people are finding out about Tinleigh's big scare, the looks just get better and better.  You know, they see you and come up to ya asking what happened. Then you go on to tell the story and you just see their facial expression change. The look of, "Weren't you watching her?". Then when they see her and notice that her hair is in a pony tail they say, "She can swallow that also!" Yes, I know this but it is much more difficult for her to get a hair band out of her hair.

Then today I was waiting in line at Walmart's deli counter. The lady behind the counter says "I can help the next person in line." So I go up to tell her what I wanted and the customer beside me gives me a dirty look and  yells "Excuse me, this woman over here was here first!" Really? Come on crazy lady!!!! Luckily the customer on the other side of her said that I was in deed there before her. I just bit my tongue and smiled but for goodness sakes people, enough with the dirty looks!!!! Ok, I'm done venting. Have a good weekend.

Our First Step to a Better Future

Today's the day, August 1st. I have said a lot lately that we need to save money, we need to make some extra money, and well, the list keeps going...... Anyway, you can't change everything in a day, you need to start out small. The first step we are taking this month is our grocery budget. I have such a hard time making it work. It's not that it's to small, it's that I am LAZY!!! I admit, I go buy groceries make some meals for a couple days then look at my food supply and this is where the lazy part comes in, I don't want to come up with anything so I go back to the store. This is a for sure a very bad habit.

So, starting tomorrow I August's grocery budget will be $400. Yes, I know some of you are probably gasping for breath thinking $400 for a family of 4. But, I will be trying to lower it the next month. The grocery budget will include food, diapers, household products, and dog food. (I'm thinking this will not include Yoda's food, it costs $24 every 12 days. That would eat up about $62 of my budget.) I also set $400 as the budget because I am not sure as to what Tinleigh's diet will consist of yet. I will be posting my grocery shopping and hope to post what we are eating in terms of meals. Check back to see how we are doing and to see what other steps we are taking to make a better future.
