Update on Goals

                                          Money Pictures, Images and Photos

Last week I listed out goals of what we wanted to accomplish. Tomorrow is October 1 and that means the start to working toward our goals. While it may seem like we could do really well this month with getting three pays, it's not that great because with taking our vacation Brian loses a week of pay. Plus we also are stuck with HOA dues and an unexpected speeding ticket that Brian got in Georgia on the way home from vacation. So I don't think we will be making much head way with the Christmas and House fund. Here is what we are working on for October.

Budgeting $100 or less for food a week. This includes food, take out, dog food and household items.

Pay HOA dues $400.00

Pay unexpected speeding ticket (Brian hasn't called yet to find out how much it is)

All left over money goes to pay off an unexpected debt of $1100.00

What are your goals for the month of October?

Sunday Coupon Preview

What to know what coupons are going to be in this Sunday's paper? Head over to the Sunday Coupon Preview.

Don't Foregt To Check Your Receipts

Yesterday I went to the store to do this week's grocery shopping. I had searched the sale flyer and went on my way. Being careful to keep a running tally as I had only brought $60 with me. Once I had finished shopping I got in line to check out. When it was my turn the cashier begins scanning all my purchases. The person behind me didn't put one of those plastic "This is the end of a transaction" thingy before her groceries. (I don't know the proper name. Sorry!) So needless to say the cashier started scanning some of her products on my tab. I caught her very quickly she had only scanned two items that were not mine. Once she noticed she re-scanned them to take them off my total.  My total was $59.62. I thought it was a little high but paid it anyway. Once I got to the car I looked over my receipt and noticed those two item had not be taken off. So I went back into the store to customer service to explain what had happened. In the end I got back almost $13 dollars. That was a VERY costly mistake. Please check your receipts.

What the highest amount you caught on a mistake?

An Eco Friendly Giveaway

I had the opportunity to review Gertrude's Green Ec'o Towel. When I received them in the mail I thought how on earth is this going to turn in to a towel. Let alone how durable could it be.

I opened the container to find this. It's about the size of a thick coin. So small and discreet, if someone saw you getting one of these out they might ask for one themselves thinking it's some sort of candy.

All you need is a small amount of hot or cold water just to moisten it. Then it grows.....

Just like that, in a matter of seconds you have a towel perfectly rolled up ready for use.

Simply unroll and there you have it a damp day to clean up what ever mess might be in you way.

I have grown to love this product we were able to take some on our recent trip to Disney. If you are traveling with little ones you know there is sure to be some sort of mess. We used them in our hotel room to clean up messy hands after breakfast. That is messy hands caked in syrup. Hands down the down did not rip or tear. It is soft and unscented which is great for any one with sensitivities. The Ec'o Towel is hands down a great product to try. With that said Gertrude's Green Ec'o Towel is offering to giveaway one Ec'o Towel 10 pak. To enter simply leave a comment with your contact information. This giveaway will be open until Friday October 8th. All entries must be in before 11:59pm.

Banana Chocolate Chip Cookies

(Sorry for the terrible photo. I took it right before we left for out Disney trip and it was pretty dark)

These cookies were a hit at my house. My recipe is dairy and soy free but you can make adjustments as needed. They came out of the oven so soft.

What you need:
4C Flour
1C sugar
2tsp cinnamon
2tsp baking soda
1tsp salt
4 bananas
1C canola oil
2 eggs
2TBSP Coconut milk
2tsp vanilla
2C dairy free, soy free chocolate chips

Directions:
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt. Add bananas, canola oil, egg, coconut milk and vanilla. Beat on medium until well mixed. Stir in chocolate chips.

Drop by tablespoon into greased cookie sheets.

Bake at 375 degrees for 13-14 minutes or until edges just begin to brown. Cool, then remove from cookie sheet and place on a wire rack to cool.

Enjoy!

With The Hoildays Coming

With the Holidays just right around the corner this is the time I have found that a lot of survey companies push their product research. I love testing products, it's a lot of fun, you get the product for free and after you completed all the requirements you get compensated. Here are some companies that I participated in many product reviews.

Mindfield is super simple to sign up with and I get at least two surveys from them a day

Toluna is also a great company they also send out a lot of surveys, they offer many high point surveys which can be redeemed for cash and other prizes.

Synovate is a great company to work with also. All the product testing I have done with them I have received full size samples.

I'm looking forward to another great season doing product reviews. (I am not saying these companies don't offer product reviews any other time of the year. It just seems like around the holidays it picks up)

Our Goals

I have many goals and a lot are unreachable at this point in my life. A goal you have to work hard to reach and have the determination to get there.  If you are familiar with Money Saving Mom you might remember that that had a goal to pay cash for a house. Well, they reached that goal and while that make a lot more money that my family we can only have a goal amount for a down payment on a bigger house.

One of our goals is to be moved into a bigger house within the next 4 years. So we need a nice down payment. We don't want anything huge we just want to be able to have a basement and some extra storage. Another goal is to reach a good grocery budget. Since we haven't had any luck on anyone taking two of our three dogs we still have a pretty big dog food bill, especially when you take in to account a diabetic dog. So with that said starting October first I will be taking out $100.00 a week for food, household products, regular dog food and super expensive diabetic dog food.

I would like to pay cash for Christmas this year. We have not come up with a budgeted amount yet we are still talking about that. But in the mean time we only have 13 weeks until the big day. Yeah, and  I think my saving account for Christmas only has $5 in it. That's pretty bad. Need to work on that one. We need to really get our Emergency Fund back up also. With people still losing their jobs it's a scary situation. Plus with Brian's job it is so poorly ran you never know if he's gonna have a job or not.

So there you have it, starting Oct 1st I will be reaching towards these goals. To some of you they might be small but to us they are big. I will be updating at the first of the month to see how far we have come. I hope you will take the time to think about some goals you would like to reach. What are you saving for?

What Am I Doing Wrong?

I'm a mess! I'm so upset! I picked Ainsleigh up from preschool, when I got there they were playing bowling. Of course all the parents were there because the class was running alittle behind. So the kids are standing in line to wait till their turn. Out of all 8 kids mine is the one that is crying and won't stand in line to wait for her turn. Then after class her teacher tells me that Ainsleigh told her no when she asked her to help pick up the toys. The no thing she has just picked up on, I know a lot of it is her age but she has just started it since starting preschool.

I have talked with Ainsleigh's doctor about her being emotional at her last appointment and she just brushed it off and said it was her age. But, the thing is she has always been like this. I want her to be the best that she can be. I want her to have friends. All I can think about is, "What have I done?" I discipline her, I reward her.Ainsleigh and I talked when we got home and will continue to talk about the issues. Then on Tuesday when she goes back to school I will remind her when I drop her off and talk with the teacher when I pick her up. I don't know what to do. I feel like I have "that" kid.
Save up to 80% on Former Bestsellers, Books for Kids, B&N Classics, and More in our bargain book section!
With Christmas fastly approaching I was searching Barnes and Noble for some new books for the girls. We only buy the girls new book for Christmas and birthdays. I was amazed at how many books that they would love are $1.99. You really can't beat that!!

Back When I Was Younger

I know, I know. OK 10-12 years ago. That's along time, right? Anyway, I have been out of high school for 10 years, now that makes me feel old. OK, OK now to the point. Back when I was younger I thought I needed all the name brand clothes, I couldn't wear anything from Walmart let alone Goodwill or a thrift store. I now look back on that and wonder what was I thinking?

When we were in Florida it got me to really thinking. Why do people spend so much money on a name brands? Now don't think I am condemning you if you buy name brands, it's totally your thing if you do. Why do some people buy there toddlers $80 shoes that either they are going to ruin or grow out of in a couple months. I guess the point I am trying to get across is don't complain that you don't have any money but then turn around and buy something outrageous.

We don't make a lot of money. But we are making do with what we do make. We have nice clothes, cars and a roof over our heads. I wish I was smarter with my money a lot sooner in life then just starting a few years ago.  I wish I my parents would have instilled good money morals while I was growing up but instead once they got paid they blew all their money. Let me tell you, you really learn from watching your parents. I have done some stupid things with money. But I have two little girls that I don't want to do the same thing and that's why we have changed and still continuing to change our ways.

Back when I was younger I have never traveled but maybe two hours outside of the town I lived in. I want to be able to let me girls see the sites and make memories with them. Whether it be taking them to the beach or just to a Children's Museum a couple hours away.I want to save more money to make memories then spend it on their wardrobe. I want them to learn to save money and give to those who need it.  So the point is, my family might now be wearing name brand clothes or driving the latest cars, but we have each other and that's all that matters. I just wish I knew this when I was younger.

Down To The Wire

We leave tonight!!!! I am excited but here it is 7am and I still need to pack. As if it wasn't enough that Tinleigh is teething, I had to take her to the doctor yesterday because I suspected she had an ear infection. Sure enough she does. I am just thankful that I got her in. I was up at 2am with Tinleigh and finally got her back to bed around 3am only to have Ainsleigh get me up at 330am tell me her mouth hurt. She had a stomach sore in her mouth acouple weeks ago so I gave her a drink and went back to my room. I get all snuggled under that covers and I hear moaning. I go back into her room and she starts crying telling me her mouth hurts. About 10 seconds later she throws up in my hands. :( Needless to say I have been up with her and haven't got to go back to bed.  She is acting fine now, has eaten some crackers and drank some water.
Please pray that it was something that just didn't agree with her and that no one else gets it. My mom and sister are coming over this afternoon to help with the girls so I can get stuff packed and loaded. We are super excited.  Has this ever happened to you when you are about ready to leave for vacation?

Ziploc Right@Home

Have you  signed up for Ziploc's Right @ Home? Head on over there right now! I have received many great freebies. You have nothing to loose, only freebies to gain. :)

Sometimes I Wonder.....

Do people really think before they speak? I was wondering this this weekend when my mother in law asked if Tinleigh could eat some of the macaroni and cheese she was fixing for the other grand kids. I just smiled the whole time she was reading the ingredients. Then I asked her if she was going to put milk and butter in it and add the powdered cheese. :) While I brushed it off, it still does worry me. I get that most people don't read the list of ingredients on packages, I used to do this myself. But come on, MACARONI AND CHEESE! :)

Hubby's birthday was yesterday and his mom has been asking us for sometime if she could watch the girls so we could go out. She has never watched Tinleigh before, Ainsleigh yes, but Tinleigh no. Brian doesn't like to leave them just because he works so much and doesn't really get to see them but on his two days off. My concern is Tinleigh. Tinleigh is a different story, when you have a child with food allergies you worry even more than you would with a child without food allergies. My biggest things are that obviously she will just give her something that she can not have or that some of the other grand kids will be there and will leave their cup of milk or food around that she can't have and she will get into it. Luckily she was just watching Ainsleigh and Tinleigh and I was alittle bit more at ease last night. But  I tell ya, sometimes I wonder......

A Week From Today

That's right ladies and gentlemen. One week from today we will be loading up and heading to the sunshine state. Ahhhhh....Let's take a minute to let it sink in. (Keep in mind it has be almost 4 years since we have taken a vacation.)

I pulled these bad boys out of the closet today. I'm sure they are pretty excited to get to go somewhere also. No, I have not packed anything in them yet. Yes, there is another suite case inside the blue one.

Here are my lists that keep growing. Yes, I did misspell moose and put mouse. This is a pet free vacation!
(Is that how you really spell misspell? It doesn't look right. I guess I'll take spell checks word on it)

Our list wouldn't be half as long it I didn't have to worry about bringing extra food for Tinleigh. I know that Disney has a lot of allergy options, but  I would rather be safe then sorry.

What do you make sure you take with you on vacation?
